Lt. Patrick Huskey has accepted the offer to serve as Sandy's next chief of police, and now after passing his routine background check will start serving the city on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Huskey most recently served as the Portland Area Commander for the Oregon State Police, overseeing all patrol activities for Clackamas and Multnomah counties. He worked for OSP for 26 years.

Huskey has held several roles throughout his career, serving as an officer, patrol sergeant, drug enforcement section detective and HIT (homicide investigation and tracking) sergeant. He’s also worked as a defense tactics instructor and field training officer.

Huskey holds an associate degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western Oregon University.

"I am truly grateful for this opportunity to serve as Sandy's next Police Chief," Huskey said. "I have worked in the Sandy area for over 20 years with the Oregon State Police, and it has always been one of my favorite places. As Sandy's Chief I intend to be a visible member of the community, participating in events and making myself available for conversations with local residents. I look forward to working together to address our challenges, solve problems and keep our town safe as we continue to grow."

Huskey hopes to serve in law enforcement for another 5-10 years. He was chosen out of three finalists for the position.

"I'm so excited for Chief Huskey to join the City of Sandy," City Manager Tyler Deems said. "His leadership and experience will be a great addition to our police department. I have no doubt that he will do great things for our community."
