A 50-year-old man from Sandy, Utah has died after a rafting accident on the Green River in Dinosaur National Monument.

According to the National Park Service , staff were notified of a boat pinned on a rock in the Hells Half Mile rapid around 4 p.m. on Thursday. One person was missing and suspected to be pinned under the raft. The group managed to unpin and secure the boat. However, the person was unresponsive, had lost his life jacket, and drifted downriver.

River patrol rangers traveled through the Canyon of Lodore to intercept the group and conduct recovery efforts, with additional support traveling by car on Echo Park Road.

Adrift, a commercial rafting company, found the body about ten river miles downstream from the location of the accident and notified monument staff at 7:45 a.m. on Friday.

The body was transported to the Moffat County coroner. The rafter's name is being withheld while family members are notified.
