Body of 61-year-old man found after he fell into Sandyston lake

The body of a 61-year-old Sussex County man was recovered Sunday morning, two days after he went missing while paddleboarding on Kittatinny Lake , a New Jersey State Police spokesperson said.

James Lee, of Sandyston, was reported missing at 6:44 p.m. on Friday after he had fallen off a stand-up board near East Shore Trail, Sgt. Charles Marchan said. The road runs lateral to the 92-acre private lake.

A preliminary investigation determined Lee had not emerged from the water after he had fallen off the board, police said.

Local and state emergency responders used boats offered by lake members to search for Lee on Friday, according to a Facebook post by the Frankford Township Fire Department.

The Kittatinny Lake Community Association has been around for over 100 years and is considered one of the oldest board-run associations in the state, according to the website . The members-only community consists of 218 homes and the lake is used for non-motorboat activities.

Police said the incident remains an active investigation. No additional information was released.
