Solvang’s public property camping ban may return
In response to the June 28 U.S. Supreme Court ruling determining bans on homeless camping are not “cruel and unusual punishment,” Solvang council members on Monday directed staff to work with legal counsel, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department and possibly the District Attorney to rework an ordinance adopted last fall to include a 24-hour camping allowance.
El Centro Fire Department joins Strike Team deployed to Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County
EL CENTRO— ECFD personnel joined a Strike Team deployed to the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County on Tuesday morning. ECFD is responding with a 4X4 off-road capable vehicle, a unique and versatile wildland firefighting vehicle owned by the California Office of Emergency Services and assigned to the El Centro Fire Department. Known as a Type 6, the vehicle offers exceptional mobility, allowing it to access hard-to-reach areas. It is equipped with wildland firefighting tools and a 300-gallon water tank.
