“Gold” – Hugh Bonneville, Jack Lowden, and Dominic Cooper are the stars of a television series that draws inspiration from the well-known true account of the Brink’s-Mat robbery and its aftermath. When six armed men broke into the Brink’s-Mat security depot on November 26, 1983, they discovered £26 million worth of gold bullion. The bullion’s disposal sparked the emergence of massive global money laundering, supplied the illicit funds that drove the London Docklands real estate boom, brought together white-collar and blue-collar criminals, and resulted in controversy and murder. Detectives at the time described it as a “typical Old Kent Road armed robbery,” but it turned out to be a landmark incident in British criminal history.
