Santa Clarita Grocery Hosts Event With Grocery Outlet

On Saturday, Santa Clarita Grocery, in partnership with Grocery Outlet, hosted an event to help give back to the community.

Santa Clarita Grocery hosted its Give Five, Get Five in front of Grocery Outlet where customers could donate five dollars to Santa Clarita Grocery and receive a hot dog, drink or snow cone along with a five dollar coupon to Grocery Outlet.

“It’s been awesome, us being a brand new business, we really kinda looked around to see where we can help and Santa Clarita Grocery’s foundation stood out to us because of what they’re doing for the community, so we were more than happy to be partners with them,” said Mary Iniguez, owner of Grocery Outlet.

Proceeds from Saturday’s event are set to go to Santa Clarita Grocery, according to officials.

“Customers can make a donation of five dollars, and if they do they can get a five dollar coupon and the proceeds go to Santa Clarita Grocery and that just really helps us out as an all volunteer assistance program in terms of donations and places like Grocery Outlet really help us out,” said Jill Ziser-Carr, director of community outreach for Santa Clarita Grocery.

Santa Clarita Grocery is an all-food volunteer assistance program. It receives food donations from those in need and distributes them three days a week.

Grocery Outlet, located at 26825 Bouquet Canyon Road, is considered an opportunistic buyer because it can sell name-brand products to customers for up to 60 percent off, according to officials.

Officials added that they are able to sell the products at a discounted rate because the buyers in the corporate office source out any surplus from name-brand products and packaging differences, and Grocery Outlet takes it, buys it and sells it to the community.

The second location is locally owned and operated by Iniguez.
