The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has declared urgent emergency repairs on State Route 126, with closures expected this week.

These repairs are crucial to clearing the roadway and shoulder of mudslides and debris, cleaning and repairing drainage systems, repairing damaged slopes and installing erosion control.

The Hopper Creek Bridge was severely impacted by a big spring storm, leading to it being flooded with loose debris and other materials. The bridge is now at its capacity, marked at milepost 26.48.

Additionally, the debris that has accumulated along the banks and under the bridges within the Caltrans Right of Way limits due to the storms in February , March and April 2024 will be removed as part of this project.

Here’s a detailed schedule of the road closures that will be in place from Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26:

Westbound SR-126 connector to Westbound U.S 101 and Eastbound SR-126 connector to Eastbound I-5, Shoulder Lane closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

D7 Maintenance has cleared the roadway of sediment and debris and pushed it to the shoulder. But now, the bridges over Hopper Creek and Todd Barranca Creek need to be cleared, the concrete ditches fixed and the shoulder cleaned so that the roadway doesn’t flood in future storms.

It is imperative that this work is finished promptly to ensure that this vital route remains open for residents, emergency services and commercial traffic and to avoid any potential long-term closures or disruptions. Swift action must be taken to avoid or lessen the impact on loss of life, property, or vital services.

The construction activities near SR-126 will not cause excessive noise, so residents and businesses in the area can relax.

Construction is expected to take place from July 2024 to February 2027. West Covina-based Baltazar Construction, Inc ., is in charge of the $1.570,000 project.
