Several Dogs Find ‘Fur’ever Home’s After Being Adopted

On Saturday, several dogs found their forever home after the City of Santa Clarita and the Castaic Animal Care Center hosted a pet adoption event in Valencia.

On Saturday, in collaboration with the City of Santa Clarita and the Castaic Animal Care Center hosted a pet adoption day at Valencia Heritage Park.

“We want to encourage residents to adopt over shopping for a pet, because there are always adoptable dogs that are available that are in need of a loving home,” said Maria Hurta administrative analysts with the City of Santa Clarita.

During the adoption event, one family was able to adopt an 11 week old German Shepherd.

“I always wanted a German Shepard and my mom finally let us choose a dog and it wasn’t really a hard decision,” said Theo Vasquez, owner of the puppy.

Families were able to come to the park and meet dogs that are currently available for adoption from the Castaic Animal Care Center.

As an incentive to adopt and not shop, the City waived all adoption fees for residents who adopt an animal at the event.

Residents were able to meet a variety of animals and have the opportunity to walk, play and get to know them, before choosing to adopt.

New owners who adopted a pet are typically responsible for paying the license fee, which is normally $20 however the fees were covered by the city.

“We just want to encourage residents to also adopt older dogs, they are so sweet and also need  love,” said Reyna Albores, office assistant for the community preservation division with the City.

The City of Santa Clarita is planning on hosting another pet adoption event in October where the city is set to cover all adoption fees for the week.
