The 80-to-90-foot high, near-vertical cliffs along Depot Hill between Capitola and New Brighton State Beach are the most rapidly eroding in Santa Cruz County for several reasons that I described in the article two weeks ago. The earliest builders in this area made wise decisions and didn’t build close to the cliff edge. The desirability of an ocean view setting changed over time, however, as homes were gradually built closer and closer to the edge.
