Florida learns commitment date for priority 2025 WR target
Miami Central High wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery will announce his commitment on August 25, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Montgomery set a top-six of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Oregon and Penn State, but he has long been considered the UF’s to lose. Only the Gators and Nittany Lions have gotten him on in town for an official visit. He recently announced plans to return to Gainesville at the end of the month for the Grille in the ‘Ville event to close out the summer recruiting period. Wildlands Conservation launches new Gopher Tortoise license plate
Tampa-based nonprofit, Wildlands Conservation (Website), has just launched a new license plate to help raise funds to protect gopher tortoises. The gopher tortoise is a threatened species in the state of Florida, due to the loss of its upland habitat – which happens to be very easy to build on. They are seen as keystone species that are vital to the health of their ecosystems, and their burrows provide shelter for an estimated 350 other species.

Three Gators named to Cape Code League All-Star Team
A trio of Florida Gators are tearing it up across the nation’s most prestigious wood-bat summer league. Infielder Cade Kurland, catcher/designated hitter and right-handed pitcher Jake Clemente were named to the 2024 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star East Division team over the weekend. The game will take place at Guv Fuller Field, home of the Falmouth Commodores, on July 27.’ Donay and Kurland are starters at first and second base, respectively. Both Clemente and Donay are coming off Player of the Week performances. Clemente threw seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit as he improved his earned run average to 1.93. Donay homered twice last week and slashed .467/.529/.933 to earn the award. Kurland has held a steady .264/.346/.347 slash line in the wood-bat league. He’s gone deep once and doubled three times while driving in eight runs. Kurland has also flashed some speed, stealing successfully in four of five attempts. In related news, Colby Shelton has made it to the Cape. He’s taken over starting shortstop duties for the Brewster Whitecaps, joining teammates Donay and Clemente. Man on pre-trial release arrested for threatening to shoot ex-girlfriend
Kendrick Latrell Casmere, 20, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and illegally carrying a concealed firearm. Casmere is on pre-trial release for possession of a firearm on the UF campus and resisting an officer after he was allegedly seen with a gun in his lap during the investigation of shots fired on campus on May 26.
