Burlington man sentenced for attempted enticement of minor
A Burlington man was sentenced for attempted enticement of a minor. According to court documents, Corey Ritz, 48, engaged in a Facebook conversation with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. Ritz graphically described sex acts he would like to perform on the 15-year-old if they met in person. Ritz made plans to meet with her and suggested she bring another underage girl to their planned meeting. Ritz began communicating with a second undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. Ritz arranged to meet with the two minors in person in Burlington. Records show Ritz arrived at the in-person meeting and was arrested by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office. Ritz admitted to law enforcement that he was meeting a 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl for the purpose of sex.

New deli, market and café opens on Laclede's Landing
ST. LOUIS — The Cobblestone STL, a new market, deli and café, has opened its doors at 701 N. First St. in Laclede’s Landing. The new concept, located in a 6,000-square-foot space on the lower level of the Peper Lofts building, last week opened its grocery market, which followed the launch of its café and deli in late June. The Cobblestone’s day-to-day operations are led by owner-operator Camille Jackson and owner and General Manager Chris McMenomy.

Camden County umpire's assault case involving deputy is moved to Moniteau County
An assault case involving a baseball umpire and a Camden County deputy is moved to another county. Neal Sidebottom, of Versailles, was arrested in May 2023 on charges of first-degree assault of a special victim and resisting arrest. On Wednesday, a Camden County judge granted a request for a change of venue. The case will now be heard in Moniteau County.

Arnold man takes first place in 'My Best Ride' photo contest
Earl Stephens of Arnold won the $100 top prize in the My Best Ride photo contest for his photo of a 1923 Ford T-bucket he bought in memory of his late father. Robin Potter of High Ridge took second place and $75, and Kevin Carle of Festus won the $50 third-place prize in the contest, sponsored by Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for senior citizens. According to a study published last year by the Brennan Center for Justice, one-third of local election workers have experienced threats, harassment, or abuse.
