    Moth outbreak closes Hyde state park group shelters

    SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – An outbreak of Tussock moths at a New Mexico state park has prompted officials to close some structures. Due to the outbreak, state park officials have decided to close the group shelters at Hyde Memorial State Park north of Santa Fe.

    There is unusually heavy caterpillar activity. Officials say the caterpillars have caused allergic reactions in people and pets. The outbreak is expected to end in the next few weeks. Hyde Memorial State Park remains open, but officials warn visitors to not touch the caterpillars or their cocoons.
