Santa Rosa Police Department officers said they spotted a group of residents drinking out of an open alcoholic beverage container in public on Friday, leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old police say was in possession of a handgun.

Officers were patrolling the 800 block of Boyd Street in Santa Rosa just after 12:00 a.m. on Friday when they allegedly spotted a group of people drinking outside. The officers alleged some of the people were under 21 due to prior contacts with them and decided to do a pat search for weapons on the group.

Police allege that they found a concealed handgun in the possession of an 18-year-old Santa Rosa resident, who has now been arrested. The alleged handgun was a loaded Glock model 26, 9mm handgun that police said had one round loaded into the chamber and 12 rounds in the magazine.

The rest of the group was admonished and released, while the 18-year-old was arrested. He was booked into Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility and faces charges for allegedly carrying a loaded firearm in public and concealing a loaded firearm.
