Another former local baseball standout is getting a chance to play professionally.

Tyler Stasiowski, a graduate of Analy High School and Santa Rosa Junior College, signed with the Minnesota Twins over the weekend as an undrafted free agent.

“It’s extremely awesome,” Stasiowski said Wednesday from the Twins’ training facility in Fort Myers, Florida. “Signing was pretty surreal. It still hasn’t really hit me so much yet, but that’s kind of good because it’s allowed me to keep my head down and keep working. But it’s a pretty surreal thing for sure. It’s been a lifelong dream.”

The 6-foot, 185-pound Sebastopol native said that signing was a bit of a surprise. He had been in contact with Minnesota’s area scout ahead of the draft but hadn’t heard much since the draft ended without his name being called. Then, last Thursday, he got word from the scout that the organization was interested in bringing him in.

He packed his bags and headed to Florida over the weekend.

“It’s been pretty crazy,” Stasiowski said of the past week. “Big adjustment, really crazy with changing states and all that stuff, but it’s amazing. Wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Stasiowski just finished a two-year stint at Cal and earned honorable mention Pac-12 honors for his senior season this past spring. He appeared in 49 career games for the Golden Bears, including a team-high 26 this past season. He finished his senior campaign with a 5-1 record, a 2.65 earned run average, four saves, 54 strikeouts to 12 walks and an opponent batting average of .198 over 37⅓ innings.

"Tyler was on the mound for us in a lot of big situations over the last two seasons," Cal head coach Mike Neu said in a press release. "Last year, we won 11 of the final 12 games he pitched in, with eight of those contests determined by three runs or less. Those kinds of numbers tell you the type of clutch pitching he gave us."

A 2019 graduate of Analy, Stasiowski served primarily as a starting pitcher for SRJC over two seasons. Over his 22 appearances (20 starts), he went 10-6 with a 3.25 ERA with 129 strikeouts in 122 innings. He’s also played for the Healdsburg Prune Packers for the past three summers.

Stasiowski is unsure if he’ll join a minor league team to close out this summer.

“I do have to work into it and stuff,” he said. “They’ve got to see what I got and I need to prove myself a little bit and then go from there.”
