Kangaroos in Florida? Florida deputy snaps photo with kangaroo on Blackwater River
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office left many bewildered after it posted a photo of a deputy holding a young kangaroo on the Blackwater River on Saturday. According to the post, SRSO deputy James Hendry was boating around Blackwater River when he came across the kangaroo. Fortunately, the animal wasn’t “wild” in the sense that it somehow managed to find itself in the Florida Panhandle, and it wasn’t a fugitive from a nearby zoo.
DeSantis awards $4.4 million for A&P training at PSC
At press conference at Pensacola State College this morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded funds for workforce development and infrastructure improvements through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund and the Defense Infrastructure Grant. Awards were made to Pensacola State College, the city of DeFuniak Springs, Santa Rosa County, and Jackson County for projects that will support the aviation and aerospace industry, the military and defense industry, and increase access to workforce housing.

Santa Rosa County has been approved for its own Veterans Treatment Court, a program with the mission of keeping veterans out of jail by providing one-on-one mentors and resources that help with issues such as mental health and substance abuse.
Jay bicyclist dies after 2 cars run him over in Milton
A Jay man died Thursday night in Milton after two vehicles hit him near Hopewell Road in Santa Rosa County. Florida Highway Patrol says the 43-year-old Jay man was traveling northbound in the travel lane of State Road 87 on his bike when the first sedan, driven by a 35-year-old woman from Brewton, Alabama, struck him and threw into the southbound lane of the road.
