Beaufort DST Alumnae Celebrate 48 Years
The women of Beaufort Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated celebrated 48 years of service to Beaufort and Ridgeland communities Wednesday, June 19. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded 111 years ago on January 13, 1913, by 22 young women studying at Howard University who to create an organization rooted in sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

MUSC Hollings Cancer Center introduces next-day access for abdominal cancer patients
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The MUSC Hollings Cancer Center launches a next-day appointment access program for patients diagnosed with abdominal cancer. The new program is built for patients diagnosed with stomach, small intestine, liver, pancreas or hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers. They can also assess and address rare benign or malignant tumors like GIST, neuroendocrine tumors, pancreatic cystic neoplasm (IPMN) and choledochal cysts.
‘Loophole’ closed in Charleston’s thick plastic bag ban
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - As of Monday, the single-use plastic bag ban with an updated ban on thick plastic bags within the City of Charleston is in effect. The city and others surrounding it began looking at single-use bag laws years ago to protect the environment. Charleston’s original ordinance took effect in 2020.
