    Saraland reports sanitary sewer overflow into Bayou Sara: MCHD

    SARALAND, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Saraland Water and Sewer Service reported a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on Wednesday, according to the Mobile County Health Department.

    According to an MCHD news release, the overflow occurred because of an isolated heavy rain event.

    The overflow was on the south side of Celeste Raod between Camelot Drive and Lafayette Drive.

    LOCATION:

    Health officials estimated the spill to be over 1,000 gallons but less than 10,000 gallons.

    Mobile County Health Officer Dr. Kevin Michaels advised all area residents to take necessary precautions when coming into standing water that may have accumulated because of the overflow.

    Those who come in contact with the untreated sewage should wash their hands and clothes thoroughly.

    “Area residents should take precautions when using Bayou Sara for recreational purposes because of this overflow,” the MCHD release said. “All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before eating.

    “People should wash their hands after cleaning seafood and before preparing food.”
