One of the best new Sarasota area restaurants of 2023 has received national attention for more than its yummy food and drinks for human guests.
In December, I published my annual list of favorite new restaurants of the year and included Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar, located in the Rosemary District just north of downtown Sarasota proper, as the "best new restaurant for dog (and pizza) lovers."
Earlier this week, Boo's was chosen as one of the Top 10 dog bars in the country as a result of voting by the readers of USA TODAY in the publication's 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards contest for "canine-centric spots."

Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar in Sarasota voted Top 10 dog bar in the country by USA TODAY
The USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards highlight the best in travel, food, drink, and lifestyle. Each week, USA TODAY 10Best invites a panel of industry experts to nominate their favorite points of interest and attractions across various categories. 10Best editors then vet these nominations and select a final set of nominees to be presented to the voting public for a period of four weeks.
On July 3, USA TODAY revealed its rankings for the 10 best dog bars in the U.S. Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar in Sarasota ranked No. 10, appearing at the top of the page.
"Boo's Ice House & Dog Bar is a spacious facility with indoor and outdoor dog parks, where humans and dogs can grab a bite to eat," reads the entry by USA TODAY, which is a sister publication of the Herald-Tribune. "There's plenty of room for pups to mix and mingle off-leash in this former ice house."

The most adorable new business to open in Sarasota in recent memory, Boo's is equal parts a fabulous indoor/outdoor dog park, a full bar, and a first-rate pizzeria. Opened in May 2023, Boo's features wood-fired pizza by Chef David Grammer, who gained recognition in the area as the owner and operator of the Goodfellas Cafe & Winery on Clark Road for 13 years before it closed in 2022.
During a visit with my wife, Kristin, and our dog, Tucker, we ordered the NeoPAWlitan. The pizza arrived with a thin, smartly charred crust topped by fresh mozzarella, fresh tomato chunks, red sauce, and fresh basil leaves. Both healthy and scrumptious, it's the kind of pizza I could see myself enjoying regularly. However, on our next visit to Boo's, I plan to explore some of the other cleverly canine-named pies, such as the Spuds Mackenzie with scalloped potatoes, bacon, caramelized onions, Boursin cheese, sliced garlic confit, and arugula.
