HL Asian Market takes steps toward opening Sarasota location

An HL Asian Market will be coming to the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota , according to a sign permit recently filed with Sarasota County's building department.

The property at 7113 S. Tamiami Trail had previously been The Devyn event venue but was sold to Xiong Di Group LLC in March 2023 for about $4.8 million.

Xiong Di Group LLC is based in Spring Hill, site of an existing HL Asian Market. A phone call seeking comment about current plans for the Sarasota property was not immediately returned Thursday.

The 2.2-acre property includes 21,800-square-foot building built in 1976, according to property records.

Commercial building permit applications show extensive investment totaling more than $300,000 across several permits stretching back to early 2023 when the company first sought to renovate the aging structure.

The most recent building permit application submitted by Leaders Construction Inc. based in Harmony seeks to build shell structures with an interior build-out of a diner restaurant at an estimated cost of $117,000.

Additional details on construction timelines were not immediately available.
