The 2024 Olympic Games may be in Paris, but Sarasota and Manatee county sports fans will see a lot of hometown flavor over the next two weeks.

The Games officially start with today's Opening Ceremony in Paris, taking place from 1:30 to 5:15 p.m. and end on Aug. 11. During that time seven area athletes, whether homegrown or calling Sarasota home now, will compete.

A majority of this year's Olympic events will be held in Paris. This is the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Games, having previously hosted in 1924 and 1900 . The 2024 Paris Olympics has 35 venues in total, such as the Seine River, the Château de Versailles and surfing events in Teahupo'o, Tahiti .
