LAWRENCE COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — What began Wednesday afternoon as a tan SUV crashing into the median cable on I-44 east at 31 mm resulted in the arrest of Ezekiel Tobias Fickbohm , 20, of Alcester, S.D. after a 20-mile pursuit.
“On July 24, 2024, Troop D Radio notified me of a vehicle pursuit in Jasper County, Missouri traveling eastbound on Interstate 44. I was then notified that the suspect vehicle intentionally struck a MSHP vehicle near the 36 mile-marker in Lawrence County disabling the MSHP vehicle. The suspect vehicle identified as a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, continued eastbound on the interstate. I was set up near Exit 38 with a tire deflation device. I observed the Trailblazer approach my location in the left lane with no other traffic present. I was unable to successfully deploy my tire deflation device. I entered onto the eastbound lanes and overtook the Trailblazer. My emergency lights and siren were activated and the Trailblazer failed to yield. The pursuit continued eastbound and near the 42 mile-marker, where there were tire deflation devices across both lanes the Trailblazer struck the tire deflation device and continued fleeing eastbound. After striking the device, both passenger side tires began to go flat. During the pursuit, the Trailblazer failed to drive on the right half of the roadway, changed lanes without signaling, began to drive on the rims of the vehicle, and a book was thrown from the vehicle. Near MO 174, the Trailblazer struck a tire deflation device deployed by a Lawrence County Deputy. The left tires of the Trailblazer began to go flat. Near the 51 mile-marker the Trailblazer came to a stop in the left lane. The driver refused to exit the vehicle. While attempting to remove him from the Trailblazer the driver began to try to accelerate away with us trying to remove him. After some time, he was removed from the vehicle and placed in handcuffs. He was later identified as Ezekiel T. Fickbohm . I made the following observations of Fickbohm: eyes were droopy, incoherent statements, began to meditate on the side of the interstate, and took his clothes off. A Mercy Ambulance checked him and stated he was fit for confinement. Lawrence County transported him to the jail. Upon arrival the jail, I read Fickbohm Implied Consent and he refused to provide a sample of his blood. I observed Fickbohm spit on the ground multiple times, began to sing, and then he stood up and began to do martial arts. Fickbohm was released to the custody of the jail staff.” — Tpr K.
