    Hunt Hill events

    2024-07-05

SARONA — Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary in Sarona will be hosting events coming this month.

Hunt Hill will be hosting a Beasts & Beer program at Buck ’n Beams Social House & Campground, Cameron, on Wednesday, July 10. Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. with an opportunity to socialize with other nature enthusiasts before the presentation begins at 6 p.m. This month’s topic is Into the Vernal Pond.

Beasts & Beer is a monthly program that gives nature lovers an opportunity to socialize with others over snacks and beverages and enjoy a presentation from a local expert in a happy hour atmosphere. Each program features a different presenter at a different location.

Vernal pools are unique wetlands found in historically glaciated areas. Many animals who call vernal pools home live nowhere else. Join Wisconsin DNR conservation biologist Alexander Street as he focuses on herpetofauna and organisms they depend on in this explosive and seasonal environment.

Registration is required by Tuesday, July 9, at noon or when the program limit of 70 people is reached, whichever comes first. To register, visit www.hunthill.org to complete online registration or call 715.635.6543. There is a program fee per person.

Interested in contributing to science and learning something new? Participate in a Bat Roost County, a citizen science program, at Hunt Hill on Friday, July 12, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Citizen science is scientific research that the public can participate in and contribute to data collection. No prior experience is needed to participate.

The baby bats have taken to the air! Join Hunt Hill in completing a second roost count after the babies have emerged to help get an idea of the bats’ population change over the summer. At this Bat Roost County, learn about the types of bats that live in the area and ways that citizen scientists can help monitor them. Then, once the sun goes down, we will count the bats that emerge from the bat houses around camp and complete a roost count. There may also be a chance to try some acoustic monitoring. Participants need not have participated in the previous count to attend this one.

There is no program fee, but registration is highly recommended. For more information or to register, visit hunthill.org or call 715.635.6543.
