SARONA — After months of research and discussion, on June 10 the Board of Directors of the Friends of Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary, Inc. held a special meting of the membership to propose a name change from Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary, Inc. to Hunt Hill Nature Center, Inc.

Current 2024 members were notified of the meeting by email and by letter. One hundred and two members were in attendance at the meeting, with all but one vote cast in favor of the name change. Hunt Hill is excited to announce that the change was approved.

Over the next six months, Hunt Hill will be transitioning to the new name and logo, with full integration by Jan. 1, 2025. During this time, people will see the old name appear in various places until the switch is complete.

We appreciate the time and, in many cases, the distance so many of our members took to join us to cast their vote and are looking forward to this new chapter in our story. Stay tuned to our website, www.hunthill.org, and social media as we unveil the new logo in the next couple of weeks.

Feel free to contact Nikki at director@hunthill.org or 715.635.6543.

This summer’s featured artist will be Janice Hovey.

Hovey is a mixed media artist who primarily makes collage and assemblage pieces using a variety of materials. The series she is featuring this summer at Hunt Hill is the BirdCrash series. According to Hovey’s artist statement, “The visual movement makes the birds appear to be bumping or ‘crashing’ into each other in a crowded, ink-streaked sky. The mostly improvised expressions on the bird faces, when taken out of context of Audubon’s serene backgrounds, are ones of vulnerability, anxiety, violence and sometimes humor, and these unlikely bird juxtapositions can create an element of unease and chaos.”

Nine pieces of her original artwork can be observed in the Richard Grand Recreation Hall at Hunt Hill throughout the summer. Those interested in seeing more of her work are encouraged to find her at @metatorus.mixed.media on Instagram. Hunt Hill does not sell artist work; however, those interested in purchasing a piece can do so by contacting Hovey directly at janice@boldface.com.
