When the Milwaukee Brewers let Craig Counsell walk to the Chicago Cubs -- walk as in lost him to a record-breaking contract, of course -- the initial reaction out of Wisconsin was one of betrayal. From the Golden Eagles as they staked themselves to a 2-0 lead at intermission and then tacked on four more after halftime for a 6-1 smashing of the Red Foxes. The lopsided win moves Marquette to 2-0-0 after the first weekend of the 2024 season.

The Brewers wouldn’t score again after that and the Athletics held on for a 4-3 win in the Brewers final appearance at the Oakland Coliseum.
