SAULT STE. MARIE — MyMichigan Medical Center Sault and Central Savings Bank recently hosted the 13th Annual Burger Bash to raise money for the Road to Recovery Program.

The fundraiser took place on June 12, and raised $8,548. The program, which is volunteer-driven, transports oncology patients from Sault Ste. Marie to Petoskey for specialized treatments.

“This is a wonderful way for the community to support each other,” said Andrea Masters, marketing director at Central Savings Bank, in a statement. “It brings out many people to help those in need. The program relies on donations, and this is one way we can offer support to our friends and neighbors in our hometown and surrounding areas.”

The Burger Bash is the largest annual fundraising event for the Road to Recovery Program, raising just shy of $90,000 to date.

“Donations are the livelihood of our program,” said Tanya Overman, volunteer coordinator, in a press release. “It’s how we are able to get these vans on the road every day. It’s gas, bridge fare, tires on the vans, and brakes when they need it. It’s everything that the program needs to transport our patients to life-saving treatment.”

MyMichigan Health Foundation accepts donations throughout the year for the Road to Recovery program at mymichigan.org/foundation. Those interested in volunteering for the Road to Recovery Program can contact Overman at (906) 635-4352 or by email at tanya.overman@mymichigan.org.
