ROME — Why did most people think that the horse and rider mural in downtown Rome was of Paul Revere? Because of the moon added to the corner, said artist Jane Taylor, who painted the iconic mural in 2001. “As soon as I put the moon up there, everyone thought it was Paul Revere” and his midnight ride, said Taylor when she visited the site of her work on Tuesday. The mural was actually of Brigadier General Peter Gansevoort, who was a colonel when he and his men withstood the 20-day Siege of Fort Stanwix by British forces in 1777.
