State gas prices rose last week and reached an average of $3.31 per gallon of regular fuel on Monday, up from last week's price of $3.29 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Last week, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) facilitated a tour of Brunswick Corporation’s New York Mills Operation with State Representative Tom Murphy (GOP House District 9B). The tour offered a comprehensive look into Brunswick’s manufacturing footprint in Minnesota, particularly in the production of Lund and Crestliner Boats. Representatives from Brunswick and NMMA underscored the marine industry’s vital role in the state’s economy to the state representative.
At Least One St. Cloud Area School Will Offer Boys Volleyball in 2025
The Minnesota State High School League approved boys volleyball as a high school sport last year. The first season of boys high school volleyball as a full fledged sport in Minnesota will be during the 2024-2025 school year. The season will be offered in the spring of 2025. Cathedral Activities Director Emmett Keenan is a former MSHSL board member and active participant within the league. He says the largest interest in the state in the sport is in the Twin Cities metro where enrollments are larger and the following appears greater.
Minnesota Looking to Increase Numbers of This Animal
The Minnesota DNR in collaboration with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa plan to move elk from the northwestern part of the state to the northeastern part of the state near Cloquet and north. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. He says the plan is to transfer 15 to 20 elk from the northwestern part of the state to the northeastern part with the hopes of growing the herd. Schmitt says elk used to live in that part of the state many years ago. He explains the plan is to do this annually starting in 2026 until the elk reproduce on their own.
One year since marijuana legalization and expungement efforts are still underway
We’re approaching the one year anniversary of the legalization of recreational marijuana. On top of businesses readying themselves to sell marijuana, the state cannabis review board has been hard at work looking at who is eligible to have marijuana-related criminal incidents expunged from their record. It’s a process that will change the lives of hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans with criminal records.

Rio Severson named new Rocket girls basketball head coach
Rio Severson was named as the new Randolph girls basketball head coach in the wake of former head coach Dennis Trom’s retirement from the position late this spring. Severson spent the last few seasons as an assistant under Trom. It was her first high school coaching job after graduating college, though she had coached at the youth and AAU levels prior to that. She is a special education teacher for Randolph Schools, is from Grand Meadow and attended both Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, and the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Severson played basketball at Dordt, a NAIA school, in 2016-2017 before transferring to Northwestern where she played basketball the following three seasons.
