SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – It was a packed house Sunday night at Congregation Mickve Israel for the sixth annual jazz concert benefiting Camp Lighthouse.

The night featured performances by jazz legends Teddy Adams and Huxsie Scott. WSAV’s Kim Gusby served as emcee for the evening.

Camp Lighthouse was opened to help underserved children ages 5 to 13. The camp has helped to expose them to diverse cultures and activities since 1998. This year, the camp partnered with SCAD to offer campers some unique experiences.

WSAV spoke with Lillian Grant-Baptiste, who is a board member of the Martin de Porres Society which runs Camp Lighthouse, at the event. She tells us just how important the camp is for the children who go:

“It’s just a beautiful thing to bring young kids together, to bring people from the community with these young kids, and to expose them to different things, and to provide a safe place where they’re loved and they get the support, and some academic support and some cultural enrichment, and things that they would otherwise not be exposed to.”
