    Savannah city offices, services to close for Independence Day

    SAVANNAH, G.a. (WSAV) – City buildings and facilities will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

    The city’s sanitation service will also see a schedule change.

    Residential garbage and yard waste collection and street sweeping services will not run on Thursday, July 4. Waste collection will resume on Friday, July 5, and proceed on a one-day delayed schedule. Recycling will not be impacted and will proceed as scheduled.

    Street sweeping will resume on Monday, July 8.

    Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday, July 4. Dean Forest Landfill will reopen Friday, July 5 at 7 a.m. Bacon Park Transfer Station will reopen on Friday, July 5 at 9 a.m.

    The city also urges caution with igniting fireworks, advising that fireworks may be discharged between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and July 4.

    Fireworks are not permitted in the right of way of a public road, highway, or railroad; indoors, any place where a person is deemed a trespasser; within 100 yards of an electric plant, water treatment plant, retail gasoline sales, flammable liquids, facilities engaged in processing flammable liquids, electric substations, a jail or prison, public use air facility, hospital, nursing home, or health care facility.
