    Fourth of July is on Thursday. Here's a look at what's open, closed in the Savannah area

    Independence Day is on Thursday, and because it's a federal holiday, you may want to prepare accordingly as many facilities will be closed and services will be paused. Here's a look at some of them:

    The City of Savannah's offices and facilities will be closed July 4, but emergency services will remain operational, according to the city's news release Monday. They will reopen July 5.

    Savannah residential garbage collection and yard waste collection services will not run on July 4. They will resume on July 5 and proceed on a one-day delayed schedule. Street sweepers will not run on July 4. Regular service will resume on July 8. Recycling will not be impacted and will proceed as scheduled. Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer Station will both be closed on July 4. Dean Forest Landfill will reopen at 7 a.m. July 5 at Bacon Park Transfer Station will reopen at 9 a.m. July 5 at for regular operation.

    Savannah area is booming:Here are some upcoming 4th of July festivities

    The City of Pooler posted online that city hall will be closed on July 4 and 5. This includes all non-essential city services, administrative offices, and facilities. Emergency and public safety services will operate as usual. Regular city operations will resume on July 8.

    Hilton Head's government posted on Facebook that administrative offices will be closed on July 4 and reopen at 8 a.m. July 5. The Beaufort County Convenience Center will also be closed and resume its normal schedule on July 5. Town emergency services will remain fully operational.

    The City of Richmond Hill posted on Facebook that administrative offices will be closed on July 4 and will reopen at 8 a.m. July 5. Those with an after-hours water emergency should call (912) 421-2034.

    Curious about the mail? All post offices will be closed for retail transactions and there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries. UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4 and store locations may be closed. Check with your local store for specific hours of operation. Most of FedEx's pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4, and you will need to check your local store's hours of operation. Priority and critical mailing services are available all year long, including on the 4th.

    Need to shop or eat out? Many chain stores have confirmed they will be open on July 4, including Kroger, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Publix, and Food Lion. Aldi's will be closing early at 4 p.m. Many restaurant chains like McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Olive Garden, and Dunkin' have also said they will be open, but hours vary depending on the location.
