SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – BMW is recalling over 291,000 SUVs that were sold in the United States.

    The recall affects certain X3 (X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, X3 M) SUVs from the 2018 through 2023 model years.

BMW of North America, LLC said in documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this safety recall involves the attachment between the rear cargo rails and the vehicle body. In an extreme rear crash, the attachment between the rear cargo rail and the vehicle body could become damaged.

If the attachment became damaged, the rail could start to separate from the vehicle body, which could increase the risk of injury.

BMW said they plan to notify owners by First Class mail and advise them to schedule an appointment with an authorized BMW dealer to have the remedy performed for free.

The company said owners who have had this remedy performed at their own expense prior to the recall notification, may be eligible for reimbursement according to BMW Group’s reimbursement plan.
