The Hayward Hurricanes boys basketball team dropped their final regular season game to the Ladysmith Lumberjacks at the LHS gym Thursday Feb. 22, by a score of 62-76.
The Lumberjacks led 37-27 at halftime.
Hayward had four players in double figures: Lucas Hansen, 17 points; Dawson Jorczak, 14; Miles McCallum, 14; and Nate Harrison, 12.
“We gave them everything we had,” said Coach Pat Harrison. “They are a very good team, very disciplined, run their stuff well, very patient, deliberate, well coached.
“ I thought that was one of the better games we played all year, including our wins. We fought through some things, but it ultimately came down to us not being able to get consistent stops.
“Miles McCallum played a very good game. He was aggressive offensively, which makes us better. The rest of the starters played their tails off as well. We got good minutes from Kyle Gajewski and Ben Laird,” the coach added.
“Not having Tyler Eaton hurt, just from having another body perspective,” the coach added. “I could tell our guys were a little gassed towards the end. I should have did a better job getting them little breaks earlier in the second half, but felt like again, we weren’t getting consistent stops and we needed to keep pace with them. Regardless, I’m hoping we can learn from this game and roll some of the good things we did into the playoffs.”
