    HHS softball wins one of three games

    The Hayward Hurricanes softball team played two games in the Rice Lake Triangular Saturday April 6, posting a 17-8 win over Altoona and losing 16-1 to Rice Lake.

    Alli Coddington pitched the win over Altoona, allowing three hits while striking out two. Coddington and Colby Sprenger had one hit apiece.

    Madi Bergschneider scored the Canes’ only run against Rice Lake.

    On Monday April 8, the Canes traveled to St. Croix Central, where the host Panthers came away with a 7-4 win.

    Brooke Laier pitched for the Canes, given up four hits while striking out five and walking one.

    Sophie Marino slammed a home run for the Canes, Kaydee Campbell had a double, Nikki had Miller had two hits including a double, Brooke Laier had two hits, and Colby Sprenger, Alli Coddington and Leah Swan had one hit apiece.

    Last week’s games brought the Canes’ season record to 2-4, all in nonconference play. The Canes will host Barron this Friday.
