    Youth soccer opens spring play

    Six teams from the Hayward United Soccer Club traveled to Hallie Park in Chippewa Falls on Saturday, April 27, to compete in their first soccer tournament of the season.

    The 10U Girls team coached by Dan Nelson, split their games with one loss to Rice Lake and one win over Chippewa Falls. Coach Adam Ojibway’s 10U Boys Team played Northland Badgers and Eau Claire United, and although this division does not keep score, the coaches were proud of the athlete’s performances.

    In the 12U Division, Hayward Boys lost 1-8 to New Richmond then beat Northland Badger Soccer Club 6-1. They are coached by Jessica Frook.

    The U12 Girls team lost their first game 0-9 against a tough team from Valley Sports Academy. During the second game, they were down 0-1 at the half but came back to win 4-2 over the Chippewa Strikers Soccer Club. Goals were scored by Adriana Flintrop (3) and Eloise Lietzan. Ida Hart played the keeper position.

    Coach Marja Lietzan’s team was complimented by the referee who stated that the girls were encouraging and supportive of each other throughout the game.

    The 15U Girls Team, coached by Kathryn Von Arb and Alison Menk, split their scoring as well, losing their first game against Eau Claire 0-4 and winning their second game 2-0 over Rice Lake. Goals were scored by Rayna Von Arb and Annabelle Beckermann.

    The 15U Boys Team beat Somerset 6-0, with goals scored by Francisco Espadas (2), Gabe Welk, Anthony Loucks, Luke Halberg and Colton Beckwith. Coached by Tony Loucks, the boys lost to Barron 0-1 in their final game. Keeper Sullivan Sportel had several great saves throughout the day.
