Hayward's Wessel playing baseball at UW-Whitewater

Austin Wessel, a sophomore General Business major from Hayward attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is a member of the Warhawks baseball team, which secured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship outright on Friday, May 3, with a pair of victories against UW-Stevens Point.

The Warhawks finished the regular season with a 32-8 record, including a 19-5 mark in conference play, and began the postseason by hosting the 2024 WIAC Tournament as the top seed May 9-11. They advanced to win the NCAA regional championship with a 6-4 win over Centre.

Wessel, an infielder with the Warhawks, batted .250 this season and drove in seven runs, with on-base percentage of .471.

UW-Whitewater has now won 22 WIAC regular season championships, including six of the last seven.
