    Wolf Symposium to be held in Ashland

    The Northland College Timber Wolf Alliance will host the Great Lakes Wolf Symposium October 15–17 on the Northland College campus in Ashland.

    The Symposium provides an opportunity for researchers and other wildlife professionals to share research and knowledge regarding wolves in the Great Lakes region. The geographic scope of the conference is regional and centered on the Great Lakes region, including states, Tribes, and provinces that are within or adjacent to current wolf range. This includes jurisdictions that currently do not have an established wolf population but may occasionally detect dispersing wolves.

    Symposium Highlights Include:

    Tuesday, October 15: Symposium Presentations – 12:00–4:45 p.m. Poster Session – 4:45–6:30 p.m. Social Hour – 5:00–6:30 p.m.

    Wednesday, October 16: Symposium Presentations – 9:00–11:30 a.m. and 12:30–5:15 p.m. Keynote Address by Dr. L. David Mech – 7 p.m. Dr. Mech, a leading wolf researcher and senior scientist with the US Geological Survey, will offer invaluable insights from his decades-long career in wolf research. A professor at the University of Minnesota and the founder of the International Wolf Center, Dr. Mech has been studying wolves since 1953. This keynote session will be open to the public for those unable to attend the entire symposium.

    The Timber Wolf Alliance (TWA) is committed to investigating the facts and relies on research to dispel myths and unfounded fears associated with wolves. TWA provides training in wolf biology and ecology, develops and disseminates educational materials on wolves, and supports volunteers to help with wolf monitoring efforts. The Timber Wolf Alliance is a program of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin.
