Danville Launches Tree Campaign with the Green Infrastructure Center to Promote a Greener Danville
The City of Danville will receive support from the Green Infrastructure Center (GIC) to support and expand tree cover in the city. Danville is one of the first cities selected to participate in the Virginia Department of Forestry’s (VADOF) Community Forest Revitalization Program funded by the USDA through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This project is provided to Danville at no cost to the city. The city will receive support for urban forest planning, management, and community tree planting.

Henrico native featured on ’16 And Pregnant’ dies at 27
A Henrico native who appeared on the MTV Show 16 and Pregnant in 2014 has died, multiple entertainment websites reported Monday. Autumn Oxley Crittendon died July 20 at her home in Henrico at the age of 27, following reports of a medical emergency for which Henrico Fire and EMS officials had been called. Crittendon was found unresponsive, and officials were not able to revive her.
Suspensions rose during 2022-23 in Henrico Schools, with Black students disproportionately suspended
Data shows that nearly half of the student body at one Henrico middle school was suspended at least once during the 2022-23 school year. More than a decade after a national study found that Henrico Schools had the highest disparity nationally between the suspension rates of Black and white students, recent data shows that significant racial disparities continue to exist within the school system when it comes to school discipline and punishment.

Henrico Police arrest 18-year-old in connection with Eastern Henrico homicide
An 18-year-old Henrico man has been arrested and charged in connection to a June shooting that left a man dead in Eastern Henrico. Henrico Police took Damarcus Alexander Mason into custody July 19 and charged him with second-degree murder, armed robbery, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with a June 16 shooting in the 4600 block of Grand Ledge Court that left 23-year-old Lamontae Aubrey Scott, 23, of Sandston dead. The shooting occurred in the Townhouses of White Oak community near The Shops at White Oak Village.
