Show Review: Dave Hause at Spaceship Earth Coffee in McAlester, OK
As I’ve gotten older, sometimes when I go to shows I wish they’d sell coffee to keep me going throughout the show. It’s been done before, Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ used to sell coffee drinks during their Summer shows, and very rare other venues have too. Obviously, it isn’t a big selling point at a show, but for me, drinking coffee and listening to music go together perfectly. Seeing a show and getting coffee during a band’s set couldn’t be better, and that is exactly what happened in McAlester, OK during Dave Hause’s set on Saturday.

Opioid settlement fuels treatment center
PARK HILL – The $25 million price tag for a new drug and alcohol treatment center is paid for by opioid manufacturers the Cherokee Nation sued in 2017. The tribe filed suit against drugmakers McKesson, AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp. and Cardinal Health, which led to a settlement of $75 million-plus in 2021. The Cherokee Nation also settled with e-cigarette maker Juul in 2022 over the company’s role in youth vaping. Those settlements were funneled into the Public Health and Wellness Fund Act of 2021 – amended most recently in 2023 – which dedicates $100 million for a variety of public health programs, including $76 million for drug treatment capital projects.
