SAYRE, Pa. ( WETM ) — A Sayre man was sentenced in July to time in the Bradford County Correctional Facility following an incident in March where documents say he struck an officer during an arrest.

According to the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office, 19-year-old William T. Trump was sentenced to a minimum of one month to 15 months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for the offense of aggravated assault.

The documents state that in March 2024, Trump was arrested by Sayre Police following a report of an incident at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

The report states that Trump became violent when looking for medical treatment and assaulted hospital staff before leaving the hospital.

When police went to arrest Trump the following day on a similar incident, documents state he struggled with officers and resisted arrest by hitting an officer in the face.

The district attorney’s office said Trump’s young age and lack of criminal history combined with the court’s requirement of mental health and drug and alcohol treatment played an essential role in making this sentence appropriate.
