SAINT CLOUD — Two giant matchups between four local teams dominate the schedule for Week 6 in St. Cloud-area high school football.
Many of the teams in the coverage area are out of town, including undefeated Becker (5-0) and Kimball (5-0). But traveling fans of the teams will be rewarded with matchups that could pop up late in the postseason. The Bulldogs are playing ROCORI (4-1) in Cold Spring, and the Cubs are in Holdingford versus the Huskies (5-0).
ROCORI and Becker met twice last year, including in the Section 8-4A championship. The Bulldogs won last year's regular-season matchup, but the Spartans won in the postseason and advanced to the 2023 4A prep bowl . Becker hasn't had a result within two touchdowns in three weeks, and ROCORI hasn't lost since Week 1 against Detroit Lakes (3-2).
Holdingford and Kimball also met in last year's postseason, with the Huskers coming out ahead of the Cubs in the Section 5-2A semifinal 34-26. Kimball had narrowly won the regular-season matchup. Eden Valley-Watkins won the championship handily en route to a state championship, and again the Eagles are a formidable late-season opponent for both teams. A win Friday could delay a section tournament matchup with the now 5-0 Eagles.
