The Scappoose Movies by Moonlight summer movie series officially kicks off 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Heritage Park.

The free movies are held each Friday in August, beginning at dusk, with pre-movie events at 6 p.m.

Friday’s movie will be “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” starring Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves.

The movie is described as, “Two rock-‘n-rolling teens, on the verge of failing their class, set out on a quest to make the ultimate school history report after being presented with a time machine.”

At Heritage Park, visitors will also enjoy an air guitar contest and live music from The Decades.

The city says each movie in the series will be family friendly and will be shown with thematic activities and events.

Other movies will be "Wonka" on Aug. 9; "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" on Aug. 16; "Gran Turismo" on Aug. 23 and family favorite "E.T." on Aug. 30.

At the events, $1 hot dogs and hamburgers will be grilled by members of the Scappoose Police Department. Movie snacks and beverages will be provided by the Scappoose Community Club.

No alcohol or smoking is allowed. You’re welcome to bring your own picnic to the event.

For more information, visit the Scappoose Movies by Moonlight Facebook page or contact Jeff Weiss at the Scappoose Library at 503-543-7123.
