‘The Gilded Age’ to film in Schenectady’s Stockade neighborhood

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The HBO series “The Gilded Age” is coming back to the Capital Region to film. While the production previously filmed in Troy, Albany, and Cohoes, the series is coming to Troy, Albany, and Schenectady to film its third season this summer.

The Schenectady County Legislature recently passed a resolution in its Economic Development and Planning Committee for HeyDey Productions, which works for HBO, to use three parking lots at SUNY Schenectady in August to stage the filming with the crew. The full legislature will consider the resolution at their regular meeting on July 9.

The legislature said “The Gilded Age” plans to film in Schenectady’s Historic Stockade neighborhood. The production is expected to bring more than 200 cast and crew members to Schenectady.

“We are excited about the opportunity to host another major production in Schenectady County,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “This filming will not only bring economic benefits to our community but also highlight the unique charm of our Stockade Historic District.”

It was first announced that “The Gilded Age” would be filming part of the third season in Schenectady on a casting poster by Grant Wilfley Casting . According to the poster, filming is set to take place in Albany, Schenectady, and Troy from August 5 to August 23.

“The Gilded Age” is a series set in 1882, starring Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and Carrie Coon. The series came to Troy in May 2021 to film the first season and then came to Troy, Albany, and Cohoes to film the second season in 2022.

In December 2023, “The Gilded Age” was renewed for a third season . In May, Albany County Film Commissioner Deb Goedeke told NEWS10 that “The Gilded Age” location managers had been scouting places around the area for the new season.

Schenectady County Film Commissioner Donna Pennell previously told NEWS10 that she couldn’t discuss any conversations they’ve had with “The Gilded Age” production team. Other major productions that have filmed in Schenectady includes “ Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin ,” “Three Women,” and “Modern Love.”

“Having another HBO production in Schenectady County is a testament to our growing reputation as a prime location,” said Pennell. “We look forward to continuing to attract major projects that benefit our local economy and showcase the beauty of Schenectady County.”
