5 things to know this Fourth of July

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Happy Independence Day! According to Meteorologist Matt Mackie, the weather is looking good for most of the day with a few isolated thunderstorms possible in the evening.

Today’s five things to know features a stabbing in Schenectady, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office being sued after an officer-involved shooting from 2023, and where to see fireworks around the Capital Region for the Fourth of July.

1. Schenectady police close off McClellan Street after stabbing

The stabbing took place just after 8 p.m. Wednesday on the 300-block of Furman Street. Police said two men sustained stab wounds. They were taken to Albany Medical Center in stable condition.

2. Girlfriend of deceased in Fox Run Apartments officer involved shooting sues

Kyla Brothers, the girlfriend of Anthony Zaremski, who was killed by police during a search warrant execution in Clifton Park last summer, has filed a lawsuit against the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and several deputies. The lawsuit, filed by James C. Knox of Hacker Murphy, LLP, was submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York on Tuesday.

3. Plea deal withdrawn after suspect does not appear in court

A plea deal for a suspect accused of killing someone in February has been withdrawn. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Keron Payne did not appear in court on Wednesday for a possible plea to a manslaughter charge.

4. Scotia’s new fire station is ready for service

Chief David Wood and his crew are moving into their new, almost 9-million-dollar station. The project began in 2020 as Scotia’s previous facility was no longer fit for a modern workday.
