Thousands to visit Region for Fastpitch Softball World Series

More than 150 softball teams from across the Midwest will arrive this week to compete in games around Northwest Indiana.

The teams are competing in the National Softball Association Even & Odd North World Series – NW Indiana. They will play games from July 16 to 21. Games will take place at fields in Crown Point, Dyer, Schererville and La Porte.

More than 6,000 participants and spectators are set to arrive starting July 16. The estimated economic impact to the Region of hosting the NSA World Series is $9.5 million.

“We expect our local restaurants and attractions around the fields and hotels to be bustling with traveling softball families,” said Phil Taillon, South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority president and CEO, in a press release .

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority has planned multiple activities for participants and spectators.

“Northwest Indiana and the SSCVA are proud to host these highly ranked and competitive teams,” Taillonsaid. “With the support of our partners and our all-star staff, we are committed to providing a world-class event and experience for players, coaches and fans as they compete for the title of NSA World Series Champions.”

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. July 16 at the Crown Point Sportsplex with a Heavy Hitter’s Camp. The World Series Kick-Off will take place later in the day.

Games begin July 17. Opening ceremonies will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. July 18 at Bulldog Park. The event will include a parade of teams, vendors, food trucks and games. Learn more about the event here .

The National Softball Association is a softball governing authority. The association features men's and women's slow pitch and girls fastpitch. It was established in 1982 by Hugh Cantrell.

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority develops and supports regional attractions. It serves Lake, Porter, La Porte, Newton and Jasper counties. The SSCVA was created in 1983.
