Victims identified in fatal crash
Authorities have identified the two Bay Area victims from the fatal car crash Saturday night in Douglas County. Ariel Lee Pierre, 27, of Ashland, and Bridget Rose Pierre, 28, of Bayfield, died Saturday night in a single-vehicle accident around 8:30 p.m. near Lake Nebagamon. According to a release from Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post, they were southbound on Highway H near Lake Nebagamon when the driver lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree south of Koho Road. When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered the both occupants were killed in the crash. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors, according to the release, which remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Ashland man pleads guilty to theft from school
A homeless Ashland man authorities said stole money from a teacher at Lake Superior Elementary School pleaded guilty earlier this month. Gregory Secord, 31, pleaded guilty to theft of movable property of less than $2,500. Authorities said he stole a small amount of money from a teacher’s bag at the school in December 2023. He was also charged of entering a locked building, disorderly conduct, possession of narcotic drugs and possession of methamphetamine. TUESDAY: This morning line of thunderstorms has continued moving throughout the night from the Dakotas across Minnesota, and will bring some rain and thunderstorms across much of East Central Minnesota this morning, weakening as it travels into Northwest Wisconsin and becoming mainly shower activity. Isolated severe storms are possible south of Duluth, with large hail and strong wind gusts being the main threats.
