Popular Scio restaurant closes doors. Why Mike's On the Corner owners are stepping aside.

Mike's On the Corner, a popular restaurant on Scio's Main Street, announced Monday that it has served up its last meal.

In a statement, owners Jody and Chris Torrey cited non-life-threatening health issues for the restaurant's closure. The Torreys have been attempting to sell Mike's On the Corner since the beginning of 2024, and the couple no longer wishes to operate the restaurant while awaiting a sale. It is currently listed for $209,900.

"We have decided it is time for retirement immediately and close the restaurant as of this date and to spend more time with our families," they stated. "We would like to thank all of our customers who have supported us over the last five years. We have been reacquainted with many dear 'old friends' and have met many new ones who have left everlasting impressions on our lives."

The Torreys also thanked their family and employees, including three who have been with the business since it opened in 2019 -- Jeremy "Bear" Woodworth, Jordan Anderson and Amber Lewis.

"We have had a wonderful crew to have worked with," stated the Torreys. "Once again, we want to thank the citizens of Scio as well as Allegany County who have supported us."

Previously known as The Mahogany Ridge and The Pit Stop, Mike’s On the Corner is located at 3947 Main St. in Scio. Mike’s covers over 2,000 square feet on a .22 acre lot with some covered outdoor seating.

About a dozen restaurants are currently for sale across Steuben and Allegany counties.

Another Scio business fixture, The Store, changed hands earlier this year.
