Researchers have discovered that the same principles governing air turbulence in the troposphere also apply to the thermosphere. A study published in Geophysical Research Letters reveals that turbulence in the thermosphere follows the same physical laws as wind in the lower atmosphere. Additionally, the study found that wind in the thermosphere mainly rotates cyclonically, meaning it turns counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
