MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Mississippi’s Dandy Dozen was named by the Clarion Ledger newspaper last week. This is the highest honor that Mississippi high school football players strive to receive. The squad is led by Mississippi’s top-rated player in Choctaw County’s Caleb Cunningham. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver is an Alabama commit. Ole Miss, MSU, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas all showed interest in the Ackerman native. The second-ranked player in the state is George County quarterback Deuce Knight. The 6-foot-5, 206 pounder is a Notre Dame commit, but Auburn and Ole Miss are not out of the picture. Mississippi State commits making the list were Velma Jackson defensive end Tyshun Willis (6-1, 230), Noxubee County quarterback KaMario Taylor (6-4, 205), Kemper County offensive lineman Mario Nash (6-4, 280) and Winona linebacker Tyler Lockhart (6-3, 200).

Brandon Turnage gets 'chills' thinking about opener back home, prepared to move around secondary if needed
Based on Brandon Turnage's body language and comments made on Monday, it appears that the idea of being an Ole Miss Rebel is still a little surreal. Turnage essentially grew up around the program, as an Oxford, Miss. native and former Lafayette Commodore from the 2019 class. However, after leading the Commodores to a MHSAA Class 4A State Championship as a sophomore and north semifinal appearance as a senior, the former four-star defensive back recruit chose Alabama over Ole Miss to mitigate distractions and be part of a championship-caliber organization, before a brief stint at Tennessee as well.
