NEW JERSEY -- Sunday, July 21, 2024, marks the 40th anniversary of National Ice Cream Day. The "holiday" became an official when President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month and, specifically, the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day in 1984.

The average American eats about 4 gallons of ice cream each year, making it the nation's favorite frozen treat, according to the International Dairy Foods Association ( IDFA ), which also reports that ice cream companies contribute more than $13 billion directly to the U.S. economy and support almost 30,000 jobs that generate $1.8 billion in wages.
