The Highway 127 Yard Sale Starts August 3 in Dunlap

The tables and tents started going up last weekend in Dunlap, Tennessee. Not all local residents are thrilled, but the happy ones are overjoyed. They look forward to this event all year.

What could be so polarizing for a small community? The World’s Longest Yard Sale, also known as the Highway 127 Yard Sale.

The 127 Sale runs 690 miles from Addison, MI, to Gadsden, AL. This year, the stalls officially open for business August 3-6, 2023, but many vendors are already set up.

What can you expect from the 127 sale? Start with the old adage, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” You’re bound to find plenty of both, especially if you travel the length of the sale.

Most roadside displays have items you would expect to find at a yard sale, including knick-knacks and collectibles. Several sellers offer antiques or handmade furniture and décor. The possibilities are endless. One year, I bought two live bunnies at the sale.

The extra traffic is a boost for some local businesses. Many of the restaurants love the sale because it sends more patrons through their doors. Other businesses offer their parking lots to vendors for a fee.

The weather is almost always a scorcher, so if you plan to attend, dress in cool clothing and bring lots of water.
